Wise & Healthy Aging is no stranger to the Westside. With almost 50 years of service to older adults and caregivers, Wise & Healthy Aging is proud to be a one-stop resource on the Los Angeles Westside. Headquartered in Santa Monica, our nonprofit social services organization has a mission to enhance the independence, dignity and quality of life of older adults through leadership, advocacy and innovative services. We are proud to partner with key Westside organizations in bringing forth this Guide.

Tax Assistance

AARP Logo

Call for more information and/or to schedule an appointment

A free, volunteer-run tax counseling and preparation service sponsored by AARP. These services are offered to all tax payers with middle and low income, with special assistance to those ages 60 and older. Volunteers assist in preparing Federal and State tax returns of low- and moderate-income seniors and disabled citizens. Volunteers participate in an extensive, IRS-approved training course, pass a qualifying exam, and become IRS-certified tax preparers.

An opportunity to meet with a volunteer certified Financial Planner from the nonprofit Financial Planning Association of Los Angeles regarding financial advise, financial planning, estate planning and other financial aspects due to life transition.

Medicare Counseling

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) logo

In partnership with the Center for Health Care Rights, WISE & Healthy Aging offers one-on-one appointments with a trained volunteer in the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP).

These volunteers help seniors understand their health coverage options under Medicare and Medi-Cal, and help to evaluate long-term care insurance offerings.

Acupuncture Clinic

In collaboration with Yo San University of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, WISE & Healthy Aging is proud to be a geriatric externship site for the nonprofit university. Acupuncture sessions, through a free Community Acupuncture Clinic for Seniors are provided once a week to seniors age 65 and older at WISE & Healthy Aging’s main office in Santa Monica.
