The WISE & Healthy Aging Ombudsman Program is committed to raising awareness of issues and options for individuals and families facing the need for long-term care.

Nursing Home Resident Rights

Nursing home residents have patient rights and certain protections under the law. The nursing home must list and give all new residents a copy of these rights.

Residents' rights cover:

Residents' rights are established under both federal and state law. Federal rights are found in the Code of Federal Regulations ("C.F.R"), Title 42.

California nursing home resident rights are found in the Health & Safety and Welfare & Institutions Codes and in the the California Code of Regulations, Title 22.
